Chaos mood:

Hed (Echo) - War Magazine

"How are you in this war?" Fourteen creators attempt to answer this question in a newspaper-like, screen-printed book. This collaborative work aims to help us, as a community, cope with the weight of the war.

It seems the war resists our attempts to talk about it. Perhaps because of its vastness—like the sea, like time, like the night sky. These, too, often occupy the quiet corners of our consciousness, overshadowed by the immediacy of private, daily existence. Yet, at the same time, the war extends its countless, invasive arms into the most private parts of our lives.

'How are you doing in this war?' This was the question that initiated the process of creating the first issue of "Hed" (Echo). Fourteen creators were invited to explore how the war has shaped their lives—its impact on family, both close and distant, on dreams, on fear and horror. War reveals itself in countless forms: in the memories of completed military service, in the unfolding realities of reserve duty, on television screens, and in whispered conversations between couples at night.

But what, really, is there to say about the war? The relentless flow of news continues. Online chatter never ceases. So why write, draw, or publish at all? Hed is born from those fleeting moments when we chose to pause, to talk to one another about our lives amid the war. It’s an act of defiance—a way to pull this immense, dark presence down to earth, making it personal and tangible through conversation.

This issue is, at its core, a by-product of sharing and listening to pain and hardship. It stems from conversations between friends, moments of mutual understanding and reflection.

Sometimes, it feels as though the war will never end. Like the sea, like time, like the night sky. If that is the case, then we must continue to talk about it. To talk about ourselves.

The echoes of war reverberate between us and them. Between me and you.
